Editorial standards
Our guides, glossary, and calculators are written to be accurate enough that a distiller, a controller, or a TTB auditor can rely on them. This page explains how we research, source, and review what we publish.
Who writes this
Content is produced by the Spirit Sight editorial team and reviewed against the same domain knowledge that runs the product. Spirit Sight is a grain-to-bottle distillery management system covering TTB compliance, barrel-level costing, and rickhouse operations, so the people building the software and the people writing the content work from the same source material. Where an article gives general information on tax, excise, or regulatory topics, we say plainly that it is general information and not tax or legal advice.
How we source facts
Statutory and regulatory claims (TTB forms, the federal excise tax, CBMA reduced rates, proof-gallon rules, bond requirements) are grounded in primary sources: the TTB at ttb.gov and Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations at ecfr.gov. We link to the governing source rather than asking you to take our word for it.
Why our calculators match the product
Every free calculator on our tools page uses the exact same formula as the Spirit Sight platform. The proof-gallon math, the TTB gauging table interpolation, the CBMA excise tiers, and the dilution and blending math are copied from the production code, not re-derived. That means a number you get from a free tool here will agree with the number the software produces inside a real distillery.
What we will not do
- We do not invent statistics, percentages, customer names, testimonials, or quotes. If we cannot stand behind a figure, we do not publish it.
- We do not fabricate reviews or ratings, and we do not publish marked-up schema for ratings we did not earn.
- We do not keyword-stuff, cloak text, or build doorway pages. Every page is meant to be genuinely useful to a real distiller.
- We do not present modeled estimates as measured facts. When a figure is modeled, we label it as modeled.
Corrections and updates
Regulations and rates change, so we revise older articles to keep them current and re-date them only after the content has actually been improved, never as a bare freshness signal. If you find something inaccurate, email info@spirit-sight.com and we will correct it.
