2026 buyer's guide

Best distillery software in 2026

In short: The best distillery software is the one that matches how you operate. Evaluate any option on six criteria: spirits-specific depth, TTB and DSP compliance, barrel-level costing, pricing model, accounting integration, and time to value. This guide explains each criterion and maps the main categories of tools, including where Spirit Sight fits and where it does not.

We make one of the products in this category, so treat this as an informed guide rather than a neutral ranking. We have tried to describe the criteria and the alternatives fairly; the right choice genuinely depends on your operation.

How to evaluate distillery software

Distillery software is not one category. A 200-barrel craft producer, a multi-campus enterprise, and a brand that only needs TTB forms have very different needs. Score any tool against these six criteria:

1. Spirits-specific depth

Does it natively understand proof gallons, barrel-entry proof, the angel\'s share, mashbills, and rickhouse position, or are those bolted on? General tools force you to model spirits concepts yourself. See our proof gallon and angel\'s share definitions for what this depth means in practice.

2. TTB and DSP compliance

Does it build the operational reports (5110.40, 5110.11, 5110.28) and the excise return (5000.24) from your activity, and apply CBMA tiers cumulatively? Compliance you have to assemble by hand is where audits go wrong. See the TTB form guides.

3. Barrel-level costing

Can it tell you a true cost per barrel, including burdened overhead and evaporative loss, not just grain and the barrel? This is what makes pricing and valuation real. See cost per barrel.

4. Pricing model

Flat price, per-barrel, or per-seat? A per-barrel or per-seat model means your software bill rises as you grow, exactly when margin matters most. A flat model makes cost predictable.

5. Accounting integration

Does it carry through to a general ledger, AP, AR, and financial reports, or stop at inventory and hand off to a separate system? Disconnected books are where the grain-to-bottle picture breaks.

6. Time to value

Is it usable in weeks with your existing data imported, or is it an ERP implementation project? Both can be right; just know which you are signing up for.

The main options

Distillery software falls into a few broad categories. Each can be the right answer for a different operation:

  • Purpose-built spirits systems (including Spirit Sight): spirits domain logic, barrel costing, TTB automation, often all-in-one. Best when you want spirits depth without a heavy build.
  • Broad craft-beverage platforms (e.g. Ekos): cover beer, spirits, and wine; strong on production and sales, less spirits-specialized. Best for multi-category producers.
  • Large-scale cask-management specialists (e.g. DRAMS): deep maturation and warehouse management for very large inventories.
  • TTB and inventory tools (e.g. Whiskey Systems, TTB Tamer): focused on compliance and inventory. Best when that is your primary gap.
  • Beverage-alcohol ERPs (e.g. Crafted ERP): full ERP breadth on platforms like NetSuite. Best for large or multi-entity operations.
  • Generic ERPs and spreadsheets (Odoo/NetSuite/SAP, or Excel): flexible or familiar, but spirits logic and compliance are on you.

Where Spirit Sight fits

Spirit Sight is a purpose-built spirits system: barrel-level inventory and true cost per barrel, a live 3D rickhouse, TTB reports and the excise return built from your activity, and full accounting, at one flat annual price. It is strongest for craft through multi-campus spirits producers who want depth without an ERP implementation. It is not the right tool if you need a company-wide NetSuite footprint across many beverage categories, or if your only need is the cheapest possible single-purpose TTB filer.
